Aurora Aksnes' earliest musical memory is of finding an instrument hidden in the attic of her home, then becoming enthralled by the sound it made. Jan Oystein Aksnes' parents May Britt Aksnes urged her to make music as a means of the sake of personal development, and not to earn money or for as a hobby. As a result, she began writing songs of her own. Bjork and Leonard Cohen are among her favourite writers. Her mother had told her the songs she composed were not meant to gain fame for her however, but to encourage individuals to recognize their own value and impact on the world, she started playing them on stage. When she began playing the piano, she was just six and was writing her first song when she was nine. Her family didn't be aware until 14. Aurora was not a goal. She says she just likes to compose songs. She believes music can make any person feel better.
